Here is another article by Apprising.org on Rob Bell.
Let me be very clear about my take on the Emergent Church. I'm not 100% against their teachings. In fact, in Rob Bells books "Velvet Elvis" and "Sex God", I found some very useful thoughts that I have applied to my life. First, from "Velvet Elvis", we can bring heaven or hell to people lives everyday according to how we treat them. Let's be fair, it not a literal heaven or hell, it's just a taste of what heaven could be like or what hell will be like for those who chose that path. For example, suppose a person is diagnosed with a life threatening illness. The way to bring heaven into their life would be to pray for them, let them know you care, encourage them, and supply them with the necessities of life. In a nutshell, invest in them as Christ has invested in you. But, you can also bring Hell to their lives. How you may ask? By shunning them, not showing compassion, dismissing the illness, and finally by telling them that they must not be a Christian because God does not do this to Christians. That's hell on earth. Another thing that I've learned from Rob Bells book "Sex God" is this; As the man of my home, I must be willing to lay down my life for my wife. PERIOD!! Why? Because she is worth that... much more than that. She is my soul mate, my love, and my best friend. As the husband, I must be willing to sacrifice all for her. (A note to you ladies, if your thinking about getting married and your future husband is not willing to lay down his life..... then wait for another man because Christ was our example.. as he laid down his life for the Church, we must be willing to lay down our life for our bride.)
I mention the above because it's easy to let your guard down. We read a few nugget of truth, we find some pearls of wisdom, and we start believing everything the person says as truth. This article about Rob Bell is a classic example. Rob Bell uses a quote that is from an Atheist New Ager, and he uses it within the context of our relationship with God and the world. Check it out but remember to always guard your heart. Listen to everything taught but always confirm it with scripture.
